Umang Community Care Centre
Umang Community Care Centre was established under the supervision of the Foundation from a grant of National AIDS Control Organisation (NACO), Ministry of Health and Family Welfare, Government of India, for relief, care and rehabilitation of People Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHAs). It is the first centre of its kind in Uttar Pradesh. Even the whole name has been adopted by other similar set ups established in the state subsequently. The scheme provides a 10-bed facility for short term stay of the PLHAs, treatment of any opportunist disease and counseling of the inmates regarding their life after declaring them HIV+. Around 1500 PLHAs avail its facilities every year.The UCCC organizes awareness activities in the city and provides information and practical exposure to many enthusiasts, social workers and experts visiting it every now and then.
During the reported year following achievements were on record:
- The grant of the centre has been extended up to May 2009.
- The Centre was shifted from Sikrori area to Thakurganj in January 2009, a better place than the previous one.
- The centre organized painting competition on the occasion of World AIDS Day
- One DOT Sub-Centre for TB patients has also been opened in its premises.
