From Awareness to Agency

The Women Awareness Programme was a focused grassroots initiative of the Foundation for Social Care (FSC), implemented with support from the Social Welfare Department, Government of Uttar Pradesh.

The programme was designed to strengthen rural women through:

  • Structured awareness
  • Rights education
  • Health literacy
  • Social empowerment

Particularly in villages with limited access to institutional support and formal guidance.

Structured awareness camps focused on equipping women with essential knowledge across critical domains:

Foundational knowledge for disease prevention and healthy living.

Maternal and family welfare education

Safe motherhood, family planning, and nutritional awareness.

Legal literacy and women’s rights awareness

Understanding legal protections and fundamental entitlements.

Civic awareness

Facilitating access to public welfare schemes and local governance.

Encouraged proactive participation in Self-Help Groups (SHGs) and local village committees.

Peer Education & Cultural Shift

Led to the emergence of peer educators within villages. Contributed to a broader cultural shift from passive participation to informed civic engagement.

Continuing Relevance

While the structured programme was implemented in 2007, its spirit continues through FSC’s ongoing work across multiple verticals:

  • Health awareness camps and maternal health sessions
  • Menstrual hygiene and adolescent education programmes
  • Skill development and livelihood initiatives
  • Legal literacy discussions during community outreach
